HISTORICAL

1986
foundation of the association

The Côte-des-Neiges Parents Association was founded in 1986 by a small group of parents of different nationalities, with young children, helped by a CLSC resource person. The first objective was to offer respite to parents. They therefore set up a stopover service for a few half-days a week.

In 1995, thanks to PACE (Community Action Program for Children) funding, the toy library of the Parents' Association was created. For several years, the Parents' Association of Côte-des-Neiges had its premises at the CLSC while the Joujouthèque was located on rue Barclay.

Relocation to 6767

In 2000, the organization went through a crisis that led to severe funding cuts as well as a restructuring process. The Association is moving to 6767 Côte-des-Neiges Road. It now consolidates all of its services under one roof but suffers from underfunding. She has only one employee and, fortunately, a team of parents and very involved volunteers.

The search for funding allowed the hiring of a coordinator in 2002 and the development of other activities such as coffee-meetings for parents as well as being more present at the concertation of the neighborhood, working in a network with others organizations, multiply information and promotion tools and obtain a little more funding.

30 years!

The Association celebrates its 30th anniversary! We celebrate the occasion by inviting Monique Larose and Corinne Bélanger (two key people in the early days of the Association) as guests of honor at the 2016 General Assembly. Still serving families in the neighborhood, the 'Association supports them in the migratory process, working for their integration and the breaking of isolation.

The Association is renovating its premises in order to optimize space and better serve its members. It was a great success: many members of the community volunteered to help with the work. The Association is a place of respite, a socialization platform, a network of mutual aid, information and friends, as well as a toy library that makes their children happy.
